Pair of large brass altar candlesticks, of Vietnamese origin, dating from the 20th century.
These beautifully proportioned pieces feature turned shafts with undulating profiles, punctuated by elegant bulges and transitions, resting on stepped circular bases ensuring excellent stability.
The circular cups, arranged according to the traditional method (engraved convex face upwards), are decorated with fine concentric, spiraled lines. This type of candlestick was intended for ritual use, particularly on domestic or religious altars.
A comparable example, kept at the Cernuschi Museum – Museum of Asian Arts of the City of Paris, illustrates the typology and use of this type of Vietnamese brass chandelier in the 20th century.
The brass now displays a homogeneous antique patina, with warm and golden tones, testifying to natural use and aging, without excessive restoration.
