Scandinavian stoneware table lamp designed by Inger Persson for the Swedish manufacturer Rörstrand during the 1960s.
The ceramic base displays a particularly characteristic combination of materials and finishes: a lower section of natural speckled stoneware, partially covered with an earthy brown glaze, surmounted by a broad cylindrical body finished in a deep turquoise-blue glaze. Hand-incised vertical lines decorate the glazed surface.
The contrast between the matte, mineral texture of the exposed stoneware and the depth of the glossy blue glaze gives this small lamp a strong sculptural presence, characteristic of Scandinavian modernist studio ceramics of the 1960s.
The underside bears the Rörstrand Ateljé Sweden mark together with the artist's signature.
Presented with a cylindrical off-white woven textile shade, selected to complement the proportions and natural tones of the ceramic base.
