Rare lamp base by Maison Charles, Paris, France, designed and manufactured circa 1970. This iconic "Corn" model features a finely cast gilt bronze ear of corn framed by beautifully chased silver-plated bronze leaves, all rising from an architectural square base. With its elegant proportions and substantial weight, the piece has a striking sculptural presence even without a lampshade.

Maison Charles produced many of its lighting pieces to order, offering different finishes and mounting configurations to suit individual commissions. This example combines silver-plated and gilt bronze, a finish encountered less frequently than the fully gilt versions. Its twin-socket upper fitting corresponds to an original period configuration documented on comparable examples.

Whether displayed as a lamp base or as a sculptural decorative object, this piece perfectly illustrates the refined naturalistic style for which Maison Charles became internationally renowned during the 1960s and 1970s.

The lampshade shown in one of the photographs is displayed for presentation purposes only and is not included in the sale.
