Pair of Turquoise and Gold Aventurine Covered Glass Jars, Murano – 20th Century
Elegant pair of large turquoise blown glass covered jars, featuring a particularly decorative multilayer construction with a turquoise outer layer, opaque white interior, controlled inclusions within the glass and gold metallic aventurine-like inclusions.
Each jar is topped with a matching lid finished with a clear glass knob. The combination of turquoise, opaque white and scattered gold inclusions creates remarkable depth and changing reflections depending on the light.
Based on their technique and decorative vocabulary, the pieces can be attributed to Italian glassmaking in the Murano tradition, probably dating from the second half of the 20th century. No signature, label or archival documentation has been found, and the attribution therefore remains cautious.
The glass also displays a strong green fluorescence under 365 nm UV light, including some of the transparent areas. This reaction is mentioned descriptively only; the precise fluorescent component has not been scientifically identified.
