Large covered pots with Delft blue decoration are among the most iconic silhouettes of European earthenware — sought after by collectors and decorators alike for three centuries.
Superb pair of covered earthenware pots with cobalt blue decoration on a white background, in the grand Delft tradition. Both pieces share the same baluster silhouette with cut sides, richly adorned with alternating floral panels, chrysanthemums, peonies, foliage, separated by rinceau friezes, with a scroll frieze at the base and a crown of medallions at the neck. The domed lids, topped with a plain blue knob, are also decorated with floral and landscape motifs.
Note: the two pots are not from the same manufacturer. The first, slightly larger, bears the stamp of Petrus Regout & Co, Maastricht, Made in Holland on the reverse — one of the largest Dutch earthenware factories, founded in 1836, specializing in the production of Delft-style earthenware for European export. The second bears the printed mark of Boch Frères, La Louvière, Belgium, a factory founded in 1767, a reference in the interpretation of the Delft style in continental Europe. The decorations are very similar but the blues differ slightly in light, that of Boch is slightly deeper. The heights differ by 2 cm. These small differences, imperceptible once the pair is displayed, do not detract from their decorative impact: placed on a sideboard or a fireplace, they form a noble and striking ensemble.
