Pullo vase, model 2601, designed by Timo Sarpaneva for Iittala in Finland in the early 1950s.
Made of blown glass in a deep aubergine / plum colour, this model is distinguished by its organic drop-shaped silhouette, short neck and slightly stretched opening forming a characteristic small spout.
Under normal light, the colour appears very dark, while transmitted light reveals rich shades of plum, violet and deep red.
The base shows the characteristic pontil of hand-blown production. The piece is engraved underneath “T. Sarpaneva 2601”.
This form is also commonly referred to on the market as the “Bird Bottle”, in reference to the highly stylised profile of the neck.
A representative example of post-war Finnish glass design, combining formal simplicity, intense colour and artisanal production.
